Data Use Working Group

Hello all, I'm writing to introduce myself and the work we are doing through https://healthsites.io/ to improve baseline health facility data in OpenStreetMap.
Recently together with the Open Data Institute we have developed an open data policy concept note governing health facillity data. Our view is that with stakeholders in the health cluster united through an open data policy focused on a shared baseline of health facility data, a National Statistics Office can publish indicators for SDG 3.8 and collaborate with the Ministry of Health to direct investments into improved access to health services through the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI).

Dear IATI Connect,

In October 2020, Publish What You Fund embarked on a multi-year project to improve the transparency of funding for women’s economic empowerment (WEE), women’s financial inclusion (WFI), women’s empowerment collectives (WECs), and gender integration (GI). The objective of the research was to provide greater insight into the international funding landscape for WEE in Kenya, Nigeria, and Bangladesh between 2015–2019.

The research team has produced draft country-based WEE and WFI tools that allow other stakeholders to replicate our recent research to track international funding to WEE and WFI. We are currently seeking input from key stakeholders on the presentation of the tools and how to best disseminate the tools to ensure maximum utilization. Therefore, we would like to welcome written feedback from the members of IATI Connect on the same by the 15th of September.

Dear Data Use Working Group,

Are you working as a programme manager for an NGO? The Aid Information Data Analytics (AIDA) platform (https://www.aida.tools/), allows you to explore all data published in the IATI standard.
As a programme manager, you can:
➡️search for countries where similar projects are happening;
➡️see what activities are/were implemented in a country;
➡️see the stakeholders active in specific sectors/ countries (downstream & upstream).

Dear Data Use Working Group,

Are you a fundraiser working for an NGO? The Aid Information Data Analytics (AIDA) platform (https://www.aida.tools/), allows you to explore all data published in the IATI standard.

As a fundraiser, you can:
➡️see which donors are funding the same type of projects as yours;
➡️check the sectors that are receiving funding
➡️check the countries where a donor is active (Result for Dutch MoFA - worldwide between 2000 - 2044)

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know that I will be leaving the DUWG. I have joined the Board, and since the DUWG exists to advise the Board, it seems like a good idea to leave space for that and not be in it ourselves, except for the data use focal points. Obviously hope to see everyone soon anyway, online or in person,

Hi everybody

Following on from Mark's message below I wanted to outline plans for the DUWG in the short term.

Hopefully you've seen the Q1 Board minutes that include the following:

"Consider establishing more permanent working groups on all three core components of IATI: data use, data quality and technical core, both with a view to increasing engagement of the IATI community/communities and for the provision of advice to the Board. For that purpose the Board proposed to develop a thought piece, including the first elements of a TORs for establishing such “institutionalized” Working Groups The experience of the Data use Working Group, including the development of TORs, can inform the next steps in this work."

With this action point from the Board, the Secretariat suggestion is to place the DUWG schedule of meetings on a short hold while we prepare a draft proposal for the new Board as it gets to work in May.

In the meantime the Secretariat will continue with ongoing projects (such as CSO training) and circle back in this space with a new date for DI to present and seek feedback and share plans on the new Datastore Search tool.

The next two DUWG meetings (April 5 and April 19) are therefore cancelled, but please watch this space for new dates, and continue to share your suggestions on data use here.
